Aging..

Aging is a slow process.. which helps humans to accept it by default...Its sometimes scary to see with age comes the general health and behavioural problems..Aging should be graceful  with dignity...it demands respect from every other person..especially from younger people.
With age there are  people who  become either too talkative or complaining ...not necessarily mother nature has mercy on everyone, which is sad.  ..life comes to a full circle with an old age.
let us pray...
O lord... thou you know me better then myself and As I  am growing older and will be finally old one day ...keep me away from being too talkative and specially a fatal  habit of thinking of something I must say on every subject...

Release me from craving to straighten out everybody else's affair...make me thoughtful, but not moody, helpful but not bossy...with my my vast store of wisdom its a pity not to use them all ...But thou ... you know the the best where to use or be quite...keep my only few genuine friends in the end...

keep my mind free from recital of endless details ..gimme wings to get to the point to seal my lips on my many aches and pains, they might increase but rehearsing them is becoming greater as years go by...teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken ...

Keep me reasonably sweet ...thou I don't wannabe a Saint..someone hard to live with   ..Extract all possible fun out of life..as there are so many funny things around us which I don't want to miss...
You had taught me everything that I know But  I am still a layman in many ways...

  1. Well aging is not that slow. It happens very fast in my opinion :)))

    Time flies too fast.

    I wish I don't age.

Mostly I have seen people becoming bitter and complaining......partly due to physical health and partly due to lack of self esteem as most Indians do not have much to when they age...we don't develop any hobbies.

I started blogging etc. so that I can stay sane as I age.

As usual you picked up a sensitive subject and written politely.

  2. In our cultures, we are taught to respect the elders. But, there are times when certain cranky elders don't seem to deserve. Aging with grace is appealing.

  5. Hello dear:

With age comes wisdom. A broken body is easier to deal with than a broken mind or disconnect from one's Soul. Don't believe all the hype about old age. There are some real positives with growing older.

I for one look forward to it. Life is a great trip even with all the BS and stupidity.

And aren't those Saints a pain in the ass, not so easy to manupulate or deceive? No fun at all.

    Take care dear,
    Mike
ps: There's a lot of craziness in the air right now. Just something to deal with at this time.

  10. Yes,let us all Amen together,Bikram.
Gracefully getting old and not regretting it,is the essence. Some people are afraid to get old and they make lives miserable for their own children.

  11. One should be wiser enough and pre plan as such to make ageing a peaceful and happier one with no burdens, and by cultivating hobbies, and not grumbling and interfering in each and every thing of the children, until unless they are been asked for..

  12. I feel that age doesn't matter at all. A person should always be young in his heart. Though we cannot stop our age but we should not feel that we are growing old. Aged people are very caring, loving and lots of things to learn from them as they are experienced. I am enthusiastic as I was during my school days and same as now also. Wonderful post.

  14. Very appealing prayer to God. God bless you.

Aging is natural process, we have to accept it. We should love to age with grace.

We should be involved with physical activities to slow the aging process. And do not let the brain start thinking about getting old...one more thing , start hearing "18 till I die" or similar songs daily as daily dose of motivation and mind training.

  15. A very thoughtful post, Harman...aging is something unpreventable as well as irreversible.....ppl who age gracefully are admired by everyone xoxo

  16. Everybody has to face aging because of being a natural process of invisible gradual body cells decay.Aged persons are generally found quite loving and caring for their youngers and youngers also give proper respect as taught in indian culture.Exceptions are not taken as examples in any case.Your article reflects that your experience is otherwise and hence your perception is otherwise in this respect which is of utter surprise to me.

  17. Ageing gracefully is something all can't do.
But then we have to accept the old with patience and love (and try to understand them)

  19. Nice post ... I feel aged people (those who are above 60) tend to get kind. They want people to talk to them..share their feelings..& respect them.

I personally feel, aging is fast process..In our daily college, office, tensions we don't even get to know when years passed by..

I liked the ending - "I am still a layman in many ways"..

  37. @Harman,

Physical age is one aspect. In my opinion one does get old in heart too and ONE SHOULD.

DO you think it is acceptable for a married guy with kids to go after teenage girls because he does not grow up with an excuse "my heart is still young".

Different people grow at different pace. Personal situations make a lot of difference. It does not matter what is my physical age but I have seen misery, pain, helplessness, agony of old people as far as my memory goes...basically from childhood.

I confined my comments to Indians living in the USA when I talk about hobbies. When the children grow up, a large number of Indians in the USA do not know how to spend time - main time pass party - that you cannot do when you are old.

In general when we talk about old people - once they are not earning money - they are considered worthless - once heroes suddenly become zero - that makes them bitter. Bad physical multiplies their worthlessness.

You don't really want me to get started on it.

It is a sensitive subject without any solution.

We should just wish we don't get old. There is no way we will be happy when we are old. That is the fact of life - accept it.

  38. @A..very well explained...
    Dignified Means age appropriate ...

Sometimes I think I was more mature (or old and bitter) when I was in school or in college...I behaved like a real old man at that time...
