....reading all the blogs ...and goin through the latest in picture ...in INDIA..I was kinda little surprised how fast we are adopting the western lifestyle ..though DIL HAI HINDUSTHANI...but things are more in western flavor...
My bro came from India for vacation ...to US..he is with us for few days...I met him after five years, it was very emotional and touching moment for me...sitting and remembering good old days was fun and fighting for small little things when we were kids ...and usually I ended up crying ...and bro making fun of me looking at my tears made retaliate ...hit him hard..
I could relate to Jagjits singhs ghazal ..kagaz ki kashti ...every word makes me emotional...

I remembered an incident in reality which I would like today to share with my friends in my blog...
Life runs on money its an accepted fact with no ifs and buts...but to this extent where we think in terms of money at this length..
...I have a worker named Mehmood khan...hailing from India ...I usually talk to him quite often ...he must be in mid fifties....he has two jobs ,making both ends meet ..he is a very hard worker...I once met his family his wife and mother....so I kinda knew the family members too
One day ..I met MR Mehmood and as a courtesy I asked about his family...he was kind of sad ..and said his mom is no more..I payed my condolences ..and asked him about the funeral ...he said its done last week and that he got a very good DEAL...
I was actually surprised by the term DEAL...
the land for grave was " buy one get one free"so he got one portion of land for himself too and payed in parts for both of these lands...
I asked him why did he get land for himself? he said...I am not going to live forever so why not buy now and his grave will be right next to his mom,both will be together...
Mr Mehmood told me funeral expenses are very high so its better to think when alive so that its not a burden for the family later...
Life is so mechanical ...we thinks in terms of money without sentimental effects,Coz everything has to be payed for....its pathetic though but one way its also good thinking not to put financial burden on the family ...who's alive.
We get letters here in mail often to plan our funerals when alive as an event and get a good deal...I throw these letters in trash but when I heard Mr Mehmood I opened one of these letters to see ..yes It was exactly the way...I heard from MR Mehmood...

oh yes harman.. money is importent not matter who says what to who.. IT IS IMPORTANT, end of.. the same people who say they can do this and that without money or relations wont matter if money is there or not.. BELIEVE me it doesnot happen that way.

I have already got it sorted , when i die my body has to be taken to india to my house.. and the money for that is SAVED, and its in my will ..
the gentleman did the right thing I dont want whosoever is left behind me to cater for my needs and then moan about it .. Its all taken care of.. :)
so no one has to dig deep into there pockets once i am gone and then find ways of doing the needful..

I ugree hermen,life is very comfortable with money.I work part time after college and pay bills regularly now, when I didn't work I had hesitation to ask from parents in India and conversion of rupees in $$s made it difficult for them,I feel much better being independent ,the topic u raised is very delicate issue ,in US its popular to plan a funeral when alive,my uncle has done same thing what your worker did,initially the whole family was upset but thinking about future everybody accepted the fact looking at the expenses.
Money is important but it is not everything...money can buy comforts,security but not happiness.

And one of the reasons I have given standing instructions to my family that when my time comes it should be the crematorium for me (even though as per my religion I am supposed to be buried)
This is not to save the expense,... . . . but some how I feel the crematorium is the best.

@Bikram..Money is important its a universal truth ,relatives,friends are all with money people look up with respect ...those who r rich.
I really respect your views and think its a wise thing to do a will when alive.... we had a problem when our grandmother expired.she was on life support and we had to take a decision on to pull of the life support as it was not written in her will ..we were in great dilemma Coz nobody wanted to go ahead with it...and later put blame on each other...so she had to undergo six mnths ..before coming to an end...the best and wise decision to make a will when alive and give your decisions...I and my husband has thought of that!

Again, a very thought provoking post! I don;t have anything to make a 'will' for, but I do want to make a reservation in some nice old age home for myself :-) in advance!!! I heard of a place in Chennai, and that is supposedly so good, it even has a waiting list! ;-)
