I was going through a video on you tube about the Indians who come here in USA,UK or Canada and work as bonded labour being exploited by our own people(Indians) making them work on construction sites and paying them less as per requirement...
...this footage was taken by someone in UK and broadcasting on you tube where bunch of Indian Punjabi guys are standing at four am and a truck comes and picks them up with an hourly rate of seven to eight pounds or may be ten pounds per hour,preference is given to only those who work at less hourly rate and then they are all bundled up like a stack of vegetables and pushed into a truck and taken to the site...the guy in the video was sounding very sad ,where he compares himself to labour who comes from Bihar to Punjab and works for them in their village ...his clothes and way of living where like seven to eight people living together in an apartment and sleeping on the floor is ..pathetic...
His fellow workers has a same story ...saying parents back home want to show money to people or in neighbor hood that their son is working good and sending pounds ...now they can afford a big house and some luxury cars...its a peer pressure...
I have a question here for these footage's and these kind of people...
Education is MUST..its India or anywhere in the world to be successful and worldly wise..
what for?? they come to abroad selling lands back home ..burning hard earned money of parents and coming in an illegal way?
one cannot expect jobs in corporate without being professional ,its only odd jobs for these kind of people...life is very tough for people living in these countries if you don't know to speak English or one is not a professional like engineer or doctor ..or any other field, simple graduates or post graduates are considered dumb people...
There are very few people in a different slot when they improve their degrees and start studying again by taking admissions ,studying part time and then getting a better job ....which makes sense...
The new trend in Punjab villages where guys either want to be singers ..getting their album made or going to foreign land is only the carrier opportunity for them ,they sell their lands and invest money in a hope of being a millionaire, not knowing that there is no shortcut to success...
All shittiest Punjabi songs now one can watch on videos with no lyrics and absolutely weird voices...gurls being exploited wearing practically nothing and dancing depicting Punjabi VIRSA..
...fuel in fire is Miss pooja ..a punjabi female singer who has no shame in singing all cheap songs with other singer ..and no lyrics...and absolutely no family back ground..looks like she is disowned by the family..yesterday..my three year old son was listening to one of the punjabi songs and hiding behind the door saying "I am scared"I asked ...for what? he said.. look... he sounds like a monster,the singer had a weird vocal ... no wonder" BESUURE log "will be seen in videos more often...now
.coming back to what for ? these people come to foriegn countries,the same work can be done in India too...but the peer pressure starts back home which pulls them to foreign countries.
We have lot of successful indians in US living among us...the key is,
Education.. at a professional level.
communication is MUST to respond to people
legal visas and status so that you are not exploited.
There are many Indians who have made their names in business from scratch but then its years of hard work and and dedication to do something good for the family back home and keep up the name of the country you come from rather then sulking and making videos and showing up on you tube and other places trying to get sympathy from others.....
Back home when parents say their kids to study or work they want to come to USA or any other foriegn land ready to sell even parents thinking its a ticket to heaven not knowing its very tough life..only survival of the fittest will be there.....its a shock for illegal immigrants to see them-self working like a labour for people once they had hired back home....
Its a reality not a fiction ...before you get a VISA ..think twice before leaving your country!!!

Unfortunately people looking for visa are not reading your blog...
Most of the time people who don't have anything going in India look for a visa - one way or other - to make a life out of India.
I'm sorry H I've liked your writings but with this one I must disagree. Especially the last line ... haven't we all done the same ... gone somewhere else with dreams in our eyes and didn't people back in 1600 do the same migrating to USA ... I might have read it wrong and I apologize if I did but we cant have a holier than thou attitude on such a serious subject ... the right people to attack here would be the people who exploit ... write about them .. expose them .. but I wouldn't ever say to a person why did you come here. Just my thoughts :)

@ Anonymous...Its very common for people sitting in india to assume about others when they show the reality as to the odd jobs and life at the edge ...As to me ..why I came to USA...I am professional ..and married in a family whos here for last thirty years all educated and professionals in the family ,I knew what I got married where I am going and had a family to support me and give me a good life...I didn't burn my parents hard earned money or came here in an illegal way ...
You got me wrong.... but life is very hard for people who are not educated or has an illegal status and no relative to support here in foreign country...
As per the new laws here in US they not only deport illegal people but put them in Cell and give them hard time before sending them back to the country!!!

i agree that people in india think that to make a life they got to come abroad especially people who are not educated, they fail to understand its HARD here.. and i can say this for a fact that no matter waht people say MAJORITy of the people if given a choice to come abroad WILL AGREE TO IT. they say no we wont leave this and that but heck.. one should see the lines of people in the que.. at the embassies.. there was a uproar in india when uk embassy closed for 2 days ...
But on other had people here are also EXPLOITING the same very indians who come so its a sort of catch 22 situation.. but YEs the so caleld builders or people who are appointing the illegal or uneducated migrants from india do exploit them .. as you wrote money per hour well i think uk govt minimum pay is about 6pounds but these people only pay about 3 or 4 pounds an hour but show on books othersiwse.
I dont mind people coming here but NOT on account of being a slave here, the problem is THEY WILL NOT WORK IN INDIA, Two of my cousins have come, they did nothing in india and here as you say they are a labour with a builder. THis is the basic problem People will just not work... they are ready to sell land to come here and waste it all.. but would not work hard. They will not let dirt on there shirt thats what hte problem is .
I do disagree with @ANONYMOUS I wuill ask WHY to the person who comes here.. one of my known people ther son is 5th clas FAIL.. he has come to UK on Furthur education VISA for 2 years How can they justidy that if not to just earn some money.. but he wud not work at home. it is not anymore that there is amoney tree in the backyard and all you do is get up early morning and taking some down.
and yes I agree with you @Anonymous people are exploiting them... the very indians who worked hard and earned money will exploit the ones coming here..
A good note..i seriously think all visas shud be stopped for some years only then the young people will start to think of making a life in india for themselves then wasting so much time and money just to come here..
I know it .. I'm in the usa too .. I actually have felt many times I'm the same the poor people maybe only scales are a bit different ... and quite a few of very well to do folks have been facing a tough time .. but I see your point. I actually thought people don't want to come here anymore .. nearly all of my friends have chosen to stay back and are doing so well .. anyhow I guess its quite subjective, I guess anyone's case can turn bad .. such are the times... but yea I do agree its better to be well informed about what you are exactly getting before taking the step.
@Bikramjit, thanks bk for the new perspective .. actually maybe you folks are right I guess I didn't know about the really poor people who come here, like the example you gave yes thats bad .. I guess I've only known about the professionals .. and to some extent I think the basic notion people have is about opportunity .. so you know what money they have or what they will spend is no longer a factor .. people take that step in order to expect something better in future ... its quite similar to the risks investment banks take just another kind of leverage :)

Still I wud say...many decide after years to go back to india from US for good and live a peaceful life ..but then again show up ..after a year saying its very difficult now in india too.. looking at the inflation and infrastructure ....so we cannot generalize anything ..its a human nature ..in the best of everyone interest I wud say one thing where ever you live try to have a legal status and don't get exploited keep up the name of the country where you come from and make good videos of your achievements and then show it on you-tube rather then disgracing your parents and country!!!

I agree..the indian here once they get settled ..in US..try to exploit FOB.(fresh of the boat)...and try to be master to them...its all hard earned money ..here..work for eight hours and people back home think once you get visa..its money tree in US and start day dreaming...."Zor ka jhatka dheere se lage" when you have to do odd jobs..many of our relatives from villages came here ..in Canada..its been ten yrs but not yet settled ..they dont wanna go back to village and back home people squeeze money out of them like rolling pin for sugarcane juice..
its sad...though...for those who are not professionals.
